Extremist online content: Pro-ISIS website promotes terrorist attacks
The Counter Extremism Project (CEP) provides a weekly report
on the methods extremists use to exploit the internet and social media
platforms to recruit followers and incite violence. Last week, the eighth
edition of the pro-ISIS online magazine Voice of India was released on several
websites, announcing to its supporters that it is permissible to kill women, children
and the elderly in terrorist attacks. ISIS also released a new propaganda video
that depicts combat footage between ISIS and the Taliban, as well as footage of
Taliban fighters killed during the fighting. Additionally, a pro-ISIS blogger
on the RocketChat platform distributed nearly thirty emails and login
information for accounts with its VPN service Nord.
Meanwhile, the International Conservative Group (ICC), a
white supremicist media group that had previously supported the Rise Above
Movement (RAM), has launched an international campaign in support of Kenosha
shooter Kyle Rittenhouse. Finally, several white supremacist accounts on
Telegram praised the shooting of two Louisville police officers during the
protests in Louisville, Kentucky over the lack of charges being handed down in
the Breonna Taylor case.
Pro-ISIS Voice of India
The eighth issue of Voice of India was released on several
sites on September 19, aiming to attract Muslims in the Indian subcontinent and
beyond. It included an article authorizing the killing of women, children and
the elderly in terrorist operations, as well as an article praising ISIS
supporters in the Maldives who had fought in Syria and Iraq, providing advice
to those still in their country of origin. Another section contained a tribute
to Abu Khalid al-Hindi, a member of ISIS in Khorasan who attacked Sikh
worshippers in a Gurudwara in Kabul in March, killing 25 people.
ISIS launches new propaganda video
On September 22, ISIS released a new video, “Be Healed Before
Your Lord 2”, which shows fighting between ISIS and the Taliban in the Afghan
provinces of Nangarhar and Kunar. It also shows the bodies of Taliban fighters
killed in the fighting and accused the Taliban of working for the United
States. The video was released during the negotiations between the Afghan
government and the Taliban in Doha, Qatar.
ISIS supporters share VPN recordings on RocketChat
Meanwhile, a pro-ISIS blogger on RocketChat distributed
emails and login information for accounts with VPN service Nord. VPNs allow
individuals to protect their IP addresses in an effort to hide their location.
The user posted nearly thirty Gmail addresses with their passwords.
White supremacists create international campaign to
support Kyle Rittenhouse
The International Conservative Community (ICC), a white
supremacist media group, has launched an international campaign to rally
support for Kyle Rittenhouse, who is accused of killing two people and wounding
another in a shooting during protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The ICC previously
published a large amount of content supporting the Rise Above Movement (RAM),
and the various ICC accounts that have been identified have stylistic
similarities to RAM.
The ICC posted photos from several far-right groups on its
Instagram page, which had more than 700 followers on September 24. The
Instagram account included images from Revolt Through Tradition in
Massachusetts and Action Zealandia in New Zealand. It claims to have supporters
in Sweden, Greece and Serbia, as well as the US states of Colorado and
Pennsylvania. The ICC also maintains Telegram and BitChute accounts. The
Telegram account belongs to a clothing company that sells RAM goods and has also
posted photos from the Ultras football group in Bulgaria showing its support
for Rittenhouse.
White supremacists celebrate Louisville protests
On September 23 and 24, several white supremacist accounts
on Telegram celebrated the protests in Louisville, Kentucky over the lack of
charges brought against police officers implicated in Breonna Taylor's death.
Several channels inciting white supremacy expressed hope that there would be
violence that would further inflame the tensions. One channel even celebrated
the shooting of two police officers on the night of September 23, while another
channel spread links to conversations and channels on Telegram of anti-fascist
groups and the Black Lives Matter movement to encourage trolling and spreading
misinformation.
