The blood journey of ISIS Khorasan leader
The United States has offered a reward of $10 million to anyone who will provide information about the whereabouts of the ISIS Khorasan leader, Thanaullah Ghafari.
This reward, promised by the US
State Department, will also be offered those who provide information that helps
in arresting or convicting the perpetrators of the terrorist attack on Kabul
Airport on August 26 last year.
ISIS Khorasan claimed responsibility
for the attack which left a hundred people dead, including 13 American troops.
According to the State Department, Ghafari
had approved all ISIS operations throughout Afghanistan.
It said he also secured the
necessary funding for ISIS operations.
It noted that ISIS also launched a
series of attacks in 2021, including assassinations and attacks with improvised
explosive devices.
The State Department said the
financial reward referred to above is part of its unremitting efforts to ensure
that Afghanistan would never becomes a platform for international terrorism
again.
Migrant terrorism
Thanaullah Ghafari was born on
October 28, 1994. He belongs to a wealthy family in Afghanistan.
He graduated from the College of Engineering
at Kabul University. In June 2020, Ghafari was appointed as the emir of
Khorasan Province. He succeeded Islam Faruqi who was arrested on April 4 of 2020.
He is the sixth leader of the
organization. His name was included in the American and British blacklists
after the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan against the background of
his involvement in suicide attacks.
On December 21, 2021, the Security
Council Sanctions Committee added the name of Thanaullah Ghafari to the
sanctions list, pursuant to paragraphs 2 and 4 of Resolution 2368 of 2017, as a
person associated with ISIS or al-Qaeda, for participating in financing
business or activities carried out by ISIS Khorasan or planning, preparing for,
or committing such acts.
