Attempt on Dbeibah's life, Libya's vote may be interconnected
The latest attempt on the life of Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, came to add more certainty to political life in his country.
This is especially true after the postponement
of the presidential and legislative elections and widening rifts among parties
to the conflict in Libya.
Some people have already cast down
on Mr. Dbeibah's version of the story about the attempt on his life.
The same people say the Libyan premier
is concocting the story about his attempted assassination in order to keep his
government in place for more time.
Details
Mr. Dbeibah's brother-in-law, Imran al-Month,
posted photos of the prime minister's car, in which signs of gunshots appeared
on the vehicle.
The posting of the photos came after
news about the attempt on the life of Mr. Dbeibah was broken by some local
media outlets.
The attempted assassination, these
outlets said, had taken place early on Thursday.
A source close to the prime minister
said, meanwhile, that Mr. Dbeibah was on his way home when his car was shot.
The whole incident was referred to
the prosecution, the source said.
Security forces were deployed across
Libyan capital, Tripoli, following the attempt on the life of the prime
minister.
However, those involved in the
attempt have not been arrested or found yet.
The incident adds to tensions on the
Libyan political and security stage. This comes amid accusations to Mr. Dbeibah
that he is inventing the whole story to play time and keep his government in
place as long as possible.
Background
The reported attempt on the life of
the Libyan premier comes amid high political tensions in Libya. It also comes
as armed militias gain more presence on the streets of the Libyan capital,
especially since January.
This raised fears from the return of
armed conflicts, especially in light of increasing operations by ISIS in the
southern parts of the country.
The terrorist organization launched
two major attacks against security forces recently in less than two weeks.
