Saudi Arabia working to bring Yemen into Gulf fold
Saudi Arabia has made vigorous efforts to include Yemen in the Gulf Cooperation Council, in its bid to bring in security and stability to the restive state.
Deputy Minister of Defense, Khaled
bin Salman, said Riyadh and other Gulf capitals work to include Yemen in the
council.
The move, he said, aims to confront
the Houthi militia which gave the Yemeni people nothing but false promises and
illusions.
"The militia uses the people of
Yemen to serve the agenda of the Iranian regime," he wrote on Twitter.
"We assure the people of Yemen
that they are part of us and we will always be on their side," he added.
He condemned the Houthi militia for
launching attacks against his country and the United Arab Emirates.
Prince Khaled said these attacks
pose threats to the security of the entire region.
He warned against continuing Iranian
support to what he described as the 'putschists' of Yemen.
The Houthis, he said, use Yemeni
ports to threaten the security of neighboring countries and international
navigation.
"This is a violation of all
covenants, which requires intervention from the international community,"
Prince Khaled said.
Victories
The recent attack by the Houthi
militia on Abu Dhabi came in response to intense strikes by the Saudi-led
coalition against Houthi targets and the multiple losses the coalition
inflicted on the Iran-backed militia.
Coalition forces also succeeded in
supporting the Yemeni National Army and what are known as the 'Giants' Forces'.
This opened the door for major
losses among the forces of the Iran-backed militia.
These losses have prompted the
militia to launch more attacks on regional states.
These attacks came as the militia
tried to curb its losses and retaliate.
Defeat
Yemeni political analyst, Mahmud
al-Taher, expressed optimism over the latest pledges by Saudi Arabia.
He called for communicating with
Yemeni tribes and supporting the Yemeni people.
This, he said, would help eradicate
the terrorist threat in Yemen.
"It will undoubtedly contribute
to defeating the Iranian project in the region," al-Taher told The
