Sharm El-Sheikh Climate Summit... Roundtable on Good Climate Practices in Africa
Egypt's petroleum minister, Tarek el-Molla said that the
share of Africa in global emissions is about 3%, so it has greater chances of
exploiting its resources if the necessary financing, investments and technology
are provided.
The Egyptian minister also stressed Africa's right to a
fair transition of clean energy while at the same time exploiting its oil, sun
and wind resources to meet the needs of its people.
El-Molla explained the “good climate practices of the
continent of Africa,” and said that the question we need to answer is how to
provide the necessary funding to help the continent in that?
El-Molla said that an initiative was started early before
hosting the COP27 climate summit on behalf of Africa, in cooperation with the
countries of the continent and the African Commission, that would enable us to
achieve a just transition and give us the opportunity to benefit from our
resources.
The Minister of Petroleum said that Egypt developed its
strategy in 2016 with the aim of bringing renewable energies to a contribution
rate estimated at 42% in the energy mix used, and this is expected to be
achieved before 2035.
