UK: Egypt world leader in fight against climate change
British Ambassador to Egypt, Gareth Bayley, has described Egypt as a 'major power' in green energy and as a host of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference, widely known as COP27.
Speaking on the margins of the conference in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, Ambassador Bayley said his country had paved the way from Glasgow to Sharm el-Sheikh.
"We celebrate co-operation between our two countries," the British ambassador told al-Bawaba News.
He added that his country has a high view of the logistical measures taken for COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Those meeting in the conference, he said, aspire to serve humanity.
The ambassador also referred to harmony between adaptation to climate change, on one hand, and green energy and green economy projects, on the other.
He noted that a large number of renewable energy and green hydrogen projects were signed on Tuesday.
"This is why we celebrate the contributions made by British companies in this regard," the ambassador said.
He referred to several solutions to the problem of climate change, including the reduction of carbon emissions.
We also need, he said, to work together to keep the 1.5 degrees goal within reach.
He said COP27 focuses on implementation and the application of agreements signed in COP26 in Glasgow.
The thinking in Sharm el-Sheikh, he said, is about mitigating the consequences of climate change.
Egypt, he said, has a principal and a pioneering role as a leader of international efforts in this field.
