Six ISIS militants killed in Kirkuk and Al-Anbar: Iraqi Security Media Cell
Iraqi Security forces have killed six ISIS militants in
separate operations carried out in the provinces of Kirkuk and Al-Anbar, according
to a statement released by the country's Security Media Cell on Monday.
The statement noted that the operations were carried out in
coordination with the intelligence and security agencies, as part of ongoing
efforts to track down and eliminate ISIS militants who remain active in the
region.
The first operation was conducted in the Hawija district of
Kirkuk province, where three ISIS militants were killed and a large cache of
weapons and explosives was seized. The militants were reportedly planning to carry
out an attack in the area, and had been under surveillance by Iraqi security
forces for some time.
The second operation was conducted in the town of Anah in
Al-Anbar province, where three more ISIS militants were killed. The militants
had been involved in a number of attacks on security forces and civilians in
the area, according to the statement.
The Iraqi Security forces have been engaged in a
long-running battle with ISIS militants, who seized large parts of the country
in 2014 and declared a caliphate. While the group has been largely defeated, it
continues to carry out sporadic attacks on security forces and civilians,
particularly in the country's western and northern regions.
The operations in Kirkuk and Al-Anbar are the latest in a
series of efforts by Iraqi security forces to track down and eliminate ISIS
militants. The efforts have been aided by the international coalition against
ISIS, which has provided training, equipment, and air support to Iraqi forces.
Despite the successes of the Iraqi Security forces, the
threat of ISIS remains a concern, as the group continues to recruit new members
and carry out attacks on soft targets. As such, the security situation in the
country remains fragile, and the Iraqi government and its allies will need to
remain vigilant in their efforts to eliminate the threat posed by the group.
