Militants Exploit Earthquake Disaster to Plunder Aid and Fuel Terrorism
Militants have been reported to be stealing and reselling
aid intended for earthquake victims in Syria, raising concerns among donor
countries about the possibility of these organizations controlling the
distribution of aid.
Faisal Al-Miqdad, the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Expatriates, has stated that some countries supporting terrorists only allow
aid to enter areas under militant control, which has prompted relief agencies
and international donors to search for a reliable party to play a humanitarian
role in northern Syria with impartiality and integrity.
Syrian media has
reported that "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham," an armed faction in northern
Syria, has refused to allow aid shipments from government-controlled areas to
enter.
Terrorist organizations, including ISIS, have a history of
stealing humanitarian aid and using civilians as human shields in areas they
control.
Layla Moussa, founder of the Syrian Democratic Council in
Egypt, states that these organizations have always been dependent on regional
powers and their function is limited to tampering with the security and
stability of the region to serve regional projects.
Moussa confirms that the earthquake catastrophe is a golden
opportunity for these organizations to exploit the pain of the Syrian people,
seize international aid, impose royalties on financial transfers of the
afflicted, and continue to dominate the necks of the afflicted people.
