Russian diplomat exposes Qaradawy's support to Egyptian opposition
Cairo
- Former Russian ambassador to Qatar Vladimir Titorenko has exposed the
inciting role of Qatar-based Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawy, who is listed as a
terrorist in a number of countries, played in the so-called "Arab
Spring".
Titorenko
told Russia Today in an interview that Qatar had provided Al-Qaradawy, who used
Al-Jazeera for the media war, with all kinds of support. He has said Qaradawy
is very influential in Qatar as he has strong ties with the Qatari royal court.
Titorenko
said he had heard Qaradawy saying: "Give the Egyptian opposition more
money, and the revolt will be fuelled".
The Russian diplomat's statements have stirred
controversy on the social media, where the Brotherhood's loyalists defended
Qaradawy, while many others decried him, describing him as Satan and sedition
monger in the Arab world.
