Ali likens France’s Yellow Vests to Egypt’s Kefaya
Director of the Middle East Center for Studies in Paris,
Abdelrahim Ali, likened Wednesday the Yellow Vest movement in France to the
Egyptian protest Kefaya (Enough) movement in Egypt.
He added at a conference in French capital Paris on
similarities and differences between the yellow vest protests in France and the
Arab Spring protests in the Arab world that those participating in the French
protests included a massive group of marginalized French citizens who live away
from Paris.
These people took to the streets to demand their rights,
Ali said.
He said he saw on the streets of Paris youth who were
involved in politics for the first time in their life.
Ali added that these youths did not have either the
political experience or vision to start a series dialogue with the French
government on their demands.
The French government is also in deep trouble, Ali said.
It uses the same old discourse of the formerly ruling National Democratic Party
in Egypt.
He said the French government uses unconvincing
justifications for its policies.
Ali noted that the fact that some French political
movements are joining in the protests made things worse.
