Extremists might join in yellow vest protests, Ali warns
Director of the
Middle East Center for Studies in Paris, Abdelrahim Ali, praised Wednesday Arab
and Muslim communities in France.
The members of
these communities, he said, carry out their duties as French citizens.
He added at a
conference in French capital Paris on similarities and differences between the
yellow vest protests in France and the Arab Spring protests in the Arab world
that the yellow vest protests are still evolving.
He expressed fears
that some extremists might join in the protests in the future.
“This is why it is
important for French authorities to be on the alert,” Ali said.
He added that some
countries, such as Turkey and Iran could use the yellow vest protests.
Ali noted that the
French government worked to build trust with the members of the yellow vest
movement.
He called for
maintain dialogue on the movement and extremist organizations.
“This is especially
important, given the fact that danger still lurks,” Ali said.
He expected the protests to keep raging on, even if French
President Emmanuel Macron reversed the newly-imposed taxes and policies.
