UN official presents mechanism to pull out Houthis from Hodeidah
Head of UN redeployment team Patrick Cammaert
presented a mechanism for Houthis' withdrawal from the ports of Hodeidah, Ras
Issa and Al Saqef, and the city during a meeting with the warring sides in the
city, deputy governor of Hodeidah Walid Al Qudaimi said Thursday.
Under the mechanism, Houthis will have to pull out
from the ports and then the city by Tuesday at most in implementation of
Stockholm Agreement.
Cammaert is chairing the Redeployment Co-ordination
Committee, comprising UN monitors and representatives of the government and
Houthis.
Qudaimi said Houthis tried during the meeting with
Cammaert to wriggle out of the implementation of Stockholm agreement that
stipulates the withdrawal of Houthi rebels from the ports by midnight on
December 31.
The second stage of the deal includes the complete
withdrawal of all pro-government forces and Houthis from Hodeidah city to be
completed by midnight on January 7.
Cammaert will also present a new mechanism to
monitor ceasefire in Hodeidah, that came into force as of December 18, in light
of the repeated violations of Houthis to the agreement.
According to the Arab coalition, Houthis committed
183 violations in the Hodeidah governorate.
