The reactions of Iran to the fact that Washington will hold a summit in Poland on Iran on February 13-14 reveal the fears of the mullahs from the convening of this summit, which appeared in many official statements and the words of Iranian officials. This comes especially as the American move comes within the framework of more international rally against Iranian interference and violations.

Iran's reactions to the announcement of the summit did not differ from the reaction to the change in the European position, which began to issue sanctions after Tehran's involvement in the implementation of terrorist acts on European soil.

Public threats

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif called the summit, which the United States announced in February in Poland on the Middle East and Iran, "a desperate play."

Zarif said, “We remind the hosts of the anti-Iran conference and its participants that those who attended the previous American anti-Iranian offer, either died or became stigmatized or marginalized. Iran is stronger than ever. "

"While Iran saved the Poles in World War II, Poland is now hosting a desperate display of anti-Iranian propaganda," Zarif said. Zarif published a picture of the leaders who participated in a summit on countering terrorism in the Middle East in 1996 in Sharm el-Sheikh and pictures of Iran's support for Poland.

American escalation

The researcher on Iranian affairs, Osama al-Hitimi, says in an exclusive statement to the Reference, “I believe that the intention of Washington to hold this conference in conjunction with the commemoration of fortieth anniversary of the Iranian revolution in 1979 confirms that the US administration realized that Iran has already succeeded in easing these sanctions, which is evident in many ways.

The most prominent of these is the introduction by Rouhani government to the new budget of 2019, including the selling of about a million barrels of oil per day, despite the US talk of straining Iran's oil exports. This has prompted the US administration to exert more efforts to clamp down on the Iranian regime and fill the loopholes, most of which are to enable Iran to play the polarization situation in the region and continue cooperation with some countries in the region and circumvent sanctions.

He pointed out that the American move also comes as a result of Iran's continued defiance of the US administration as Iran has not shown until the moment any flexibility on the level of any file, but on the contrary, “all we have seen in recent times is further escalation, which may embarrass the US administration and put it in a weak position, losing the ability to control things, including recently Rouhani’s announcement of Iran's launch of missiles carrying satellites in the coming weeks.

Al-Hitimi stressed that Iran's greatest fear of holding such a conference might be to push the European side to abandon its commitments in terms of its abidance by the nuclear agreement and to work towards finding a mechanism for the continuation of trade cooperation between Europe and Iran.

He added that Iran fears that this conference will result in strong and tough mechanisms in dealing with Iran's loopholes to circumvent the sanctions, which will force Iran to comply with American dictates and accept the resumption of negotiations according to the American agenda. Iran will intensify its diplomatic and non-diplomatic efforts in the coming days and until the date of the conference which will be held in mid-February, the researcher believed.
