Erdogan’s role in selling off Iraq to US
Politics are based on common interests
worldwide, balancing benefits and losses that could be inflicted as a result of
any of key decisions made. That
complicates the credibility of those who claim to advocate “principles”,
especially the international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan takes pride in his solemn determination to bring about peace and security in the Middle East, including Syria and Iraq. However, Erdogan wants to wipe out of the Kurds. This is his strategic objective as a player in the region.
Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), the political arm of Turkey's Muslim Brotherhood, has played a dubious role in the US invasion of Iraq in 2003.
From a historical point of view, the Turkish parliament undermined Turkey's involvement in the US invasion of Iraq with only three votes were needed to approve the invasion. The Muslim Brotherhood's vote at the time was in favor of the invasion.
Moreover, US military documents showed that Erdogan, the then head of AKP, had met with the US administration to determine Turkish gains from the US aggression on Iraq.
The US offered billions of dollars in grants and loans to Turkey in return for taking part in the war. But when the Muslim Brotherhood failed to fulfill the deal, Erdogan rushed to the US to save his gains at the expense of the blood and stability of the Arab world.
As for the Kurdish issue, the US documents said that the PKK “is not a terrorist organization” and may be a reliable ally in the region.
Moreover, the US reports voiced concern about what they described as Turkey’s undesirable activity concerning Iraqi Turkmen. The US documents showed that Turkey has set up training camps for Turkmen and provided them with weapons.
That means that the Turkey’s Muslim Brotherhood are seeking to strengthen a fresh ethnic group in Iraq to serve their own strategic objectives.
