Iran’s regime sends drugs to Yemen, Iraq
Forty million people are facing a
number of risks in Iraq, which is located in the West of Asia, including drugs
from Iran.
In November, an Iraqi police chief
accused Iran of being the largest source of illegal drugs to Basra. "The
drugs that come to Basra, 80 percent of them are from the Iranian side," Basra’s
police chief Rashid Flaih said at a press conference, adding that this includes
all types of drugs.
In Yemen, the people have been suffering
since the Iranian-backed Houthi militias seized a number of areas. The Houthi
militias committed savage crimes against Yemeni civilians by shelling residential
districts.
A report by Al-Arabiya has revealed
that drugs are the most essential resource for funding the Houthi militias. The
Houthi leaders have become wealthy at the expense of poor Yemenis who are nearly
starving.
The drug trafficking and hashish
trade have flourished following the Houthi coup. Yemeni security forces in the
central province of Marib seized 23 kg of hashish during an attempt to smuggle
it into Houthi militias in Sanaa.
The cannabis was seized in one of
the small transport vehicles, despite attempts by the people involved in the smuggling
case to hide the shipment in a professional way.
Colonel Ahmed Dorkom, chief of security
forces in Marib, said a force seized the cannabis.
“Houthi militias have been
trafficking drugs, which the Yemeni security forces with the support of the
coalition have been fighting to stop,” said Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, spokesman
for the Saudi-led Arab coalition.
Nazar Haitham, member of the Yemeni
Southern Transitional Council, said that the south of Yemen has been suffering
for many years from growing drug trafficking, citing that the Houthi militias followed
in the footsteps of Lebanese Hezbollah and terrorist groups in Afghanistan.
“The Arab coalition has combatted the
drug trade in Yemen. The Arab coalition’s forces destroyed a large quantity of
drugs, which were brought by the Houthis militias,” Haitham told THE REFERENCE.
