Coalition Holds Houthis Responsible for Failure of Stockholm Agreement
The Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen has urged the
United Nations to exert pressure on Houthis to implement the Stockholm
Agreement on the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah and hold the Iran-backed
insurgents responsible for its failure.
“Coalition forces reaffirm their willingness to the
redeployment under the Stockholm Agreement” that was struck between the warring
sides in Yemen last December, a statement said.
The Coalition also called upon the UN and the Special Envoy
for Yemen to exert pressure on the militias to implement the deal, and hold the
Houthis responsible for its failure.
The statement stressed that the Coalition recognizes the
global importance of the Red Sea maritime lanes, and direct threat against them
due to the presence of the militias.
But said the insurgents consider Hodeidah important for
being a crossing-point of illegal and lethal weapons.
The statement said that the Coalition and legitimacy forces
have fully committed to the Stockholm Agreement despite more than 1,400
“dangerous provocations” by the insurgents.
“All signs indicate that the coup militias are not
interested in implementing the articles of the Agreement. In fact, they are
intentionally hindering the implementation to gain time to build their military
capabilities in the city and governorate,” it added.
