Gen. Robert Pryce calls for a balance between security and understanding motives of protesters in France
General Robert Pryce, the former commander of French
troops in Yugoslavia, the former director of the Anfalid military museum, and
the current president of the Napoleon Foundation, has said there is a certain
historical course in the Europe, especially France, urging the French thinkers
to study this course.
“The public security should be maintained, but with
consideration of the needs and motives of citizens who are in a state of loss
and demonstrating for their rights,” Gen. Pryce said.
"Public opinion should be well studied, whether
the demonstrators are using violence or just expressing their opinions
peacefully. It is also necessary to realize whether the French security forces
have been trained as adequately to face such demonstrations or not,” Gen. Pryce
told a seminar organized by the Center for Middle East Studies in Paris.
Titled "Human Rights at the Time of War on
Terrorism and social Crises: Between Idealism and Realism", the seminar is
moderated by Ahmed Youssef, CEMO's executive director.
Speaking at the seminar – apart from Ali – will be
General Robert Pryce, the former commander of French troops in Yugoslavia, the
former director of the Anfalid military museum, and the current president of
the Napoleon Foundation.
Gilbert Sinuet, a French journalist and writer who
accompanied French President Emmanuel Macaron during his latest visit to Egypt,
will also speak at the seminar, along with Roland Lombardi from the French
National Institute for Studies and Research of the Islamic and Arab Worlds.
