Putin, Abbas highlight Egypt’s role in Palestinian reconciliation
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Palestinian
counterpart Mahmoud Abbas highlighted the importance of Egypt’s role in
achieving the inter-Palestinian reconciliation.
This came in a phone call between both leaders. During the
phone conversation, Abbas hailed the Russian stance, supporting the
international legitimacy, WAFA reported.
Abbas also briefed Putin on the the latest political
developments in the Middle East, including the position towards the two-state
solution, and the routinely Israeli violations, especially those in Al Quds, as
well as the continuous expansions in settlements, and freezing Palestinian
funds.
Putin told Abbas that economic support may not come as an
alternative to a political solution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Putin was referring to the recent US-sponsored Manama
Workshop and the Donald Trump peace initiative, better known as the "deal
of the century".
He added that a solution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict
can only be achieved through the resolutions of the international community,
but said he was keen to continue working with the United States and Israel to
reach a two-state solution
