Syrian youth are being hired to participate in wars so far away from the Middle East, like in the case of the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war.

Media reports are throwing light on the use by Russia of foreign fighters in Ukraine where it is launching a major military campaign.

The Syrians are fighting in Ukraine on behalf of the Russians, the reports said.

Pushed into inferno

The Russian army has turned to Syrians amid plans for using them in the war in Ukraine, according to media reports from inside Syria.

This comes after the Russian invasion of Ukraine has lost momentum with Ukrainian cities becoming a hard nut to crack for the Russian army, the reports said.

They added that this also comes as European and American military assistance continues to pour into Ukraine.

According to the same reports, the Russian army has so far sought to enlist services from the fighters of the al-Bustan militia which is active in western Syria.

Russia has promised the militia financial perks in return for allowing its fighters to travel to Ukraine to fight alongside Russian troops.

Each of the fighters of the militia will receive $1,000 every month for participating in the Ukrainian war, the reports said.

The Syrian fighters are expected to be commissioned in Ukraine for seven months initially, the reports added.

The Russian army told the fighters of the militia that they would be responsible for guarding important facilities in Ukraine.

Moscow has, meanwhile, accused Ukraine of recruiting Syrians in its battles against Russian troops.

Favorite choice

Dependence on Syrians will likely remain a good option for major powers so long as the war in Syria continues to rage on.

Countries recruiting the Syrians in their fights cannot be asked to honor any obligations to them. This is an additional incentive for these countries to keep depending on Syrian fighters.

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has already opened the door for the formation of a legion of foreign volunteers to participate in the ongoing war against Russia.

Syrians are reportedly being hired by Ukraine to fight against Russian troops, especially with some European governments rejecting the participation of their nationals in the war.
