COP27 President receives Russian climate envoy and Turkish deputy environment minister
Sameh Shoukry, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and
President of the COP27 Conference, began meetings on Wednesday, November 9,
with the heads of the negotiating delegations of countries that were keen to
request courtesy meetings and communicate with the COP27 president. In this
context, Minister Shoukry received the Russian climate envoy and the Turkish
deputy environment minister.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for
Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained in statements that the two
meetings came within the framework of the keenness of the heads of the
negotiating delegations of some countries to meet with the president of the
climate summit to confirm their commitment to supporting the goals of the
conference and its success, as well as the keenness of the COP27 president to
communicate directly with the delegations in order to get to know their views
on the issues and topics on the conference’s agenda.
Minister Shoukry affirmed that the Egyptian presidency of
the conference is very keen on the success of COP27 and providing support to
all delegations, adding that its doors will remain open throughout the work of
the conference for all to ensure that the required consensus is reached on the
various issues under negotiation.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that the Russian and
Turkish officials praised the good substantive and organizational preparation
of the conference, expressing their openness and keenness to adopt constructive
positions in a way that contributes to its success and results in the desired
outcomes that enhance the global climate work at various levels.
