Counter-terror police lead investigation in Westminster crash

Counter-terror police are
investigating a car crash into the security barriers outside the Houses of Parliament,
injuring at least two people, The Independent reported.
Armed police swarmed the
scene and the male driver was arrested. The area is in lockdown.
Images posted to social
media showed a male suspect, wearing a black puffer jacket, surrounded by officers,
being led away in handcuffs from a silver-coloured Ford.
Two people were taken to
hospital after being treated at the scene for injuries, which are not believed
to be serious, the London Ambulance Service (LAS) said.
Scotland Yard said the force
is “keeping an open mind” over the cause of the crash, but added on Twitter:
“The Met’s Counter-Terrorism Command is leading the investigation.”
The streets around
Parliament Square, Millbank and Victoria Tower Gardens were cordoned off while
police, ambulances and firefighters arrived at the scene.
