His speech came few days ahead a new social and political season dominated by several European issues such as the election of the European Union due to convene in May 2019.
The French President will pay Denmark and Finland a three-day visit, before going to Luxembourg, where he will participate in Europe-related consultations along with Belgian President Charles Michel and Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel on September 6.
‘Strengthening Security in Europe”
In his speech on Monday, the French President announced that he will produce, in coming few months, a draft resolution to strengthen security across European countries.
Europe “can no longer rely on the United States for its security […]It is up to us today to take our responsibilities and guarantee our own security, and thus have European sovereignty,” he said.
Macron added that Europe should review the outcomes of the Cold War, saying “I want us to launch an exhaustive review of our security with all Europe's partners, which includes Russia.”
The French President stated that the change of the “architecture” of the European defense and security systems is a must, calling for a new dialogue on the cybersecurity, chemical and classical weapons, border conflicts, space security, and protection of polar zones, particularly with Russia.
