Le Monde: ISIS terrorists detained and may be sent to Guantanamo

NBC TV channel said on Thursday that Trump
administration might send ISIS detainees to the US detention facility in
Guantanamo Bay, while other low-value detainees would be imprisoned in Iraq or
their home countries, military and diplomatic sources said on condition of
anonymity.
Alexandar Amon Kotey and El Shafee Elsheikh,
who were members of a four-member unit dubbed "The Beatles" by
observers because of their British accents, will be probably sent to Guantanamo.
The unit kidnapped reporters, tortured and decapitated hostages.
The move will mark a key development as the Guantanamo
detention facility, which had 780 prisoners, has not received any new detainees
since 2008. There are currently only 40 prisoners, involved in the 9/11
attacks, at the detention facility.
"There is no one identified to transfer
to Guantanamo at this time," said Cdr. Sarah Higgins, Defense Department
spokesperson.
She added that the detention facility would
be open for holding terrorists in the long-term. However, other options include
"transfer to foreign partners and prosecution in US courts".
