UAE delivers 18 tonnes of aid to Mauritania
The UAE delivered 18 tonnes of food supplies and
medical aid to boost Mauritania’s efforts to stem the spread of Covid-19.
The plane load of goods will offer crucial
assistance to about 14,000 healthcare workers in the country as they battle the
virus.
The air mission is just the latest humanitarian
initiative launched by the Emirates to bolster the nation’s fight against
coronavirus.
On April 19, a plane carrying another 18 tonnes of
aid was sent to the African country as a show of solidarity in the global
campaign to contain the pandemic.
"The UAE is honored to extend assistance today
to Mauritania in recognition of the country’s tireless fight against Covid-19,”
said Hamad Ghanim Hamad Al Mehairi, UAE Ambassador to Mauritania.
“Through co-operation and global co-ordination, we
can work together to overcome these challenging circumstances and aim towards
achieving a future in which public health security is a priority of the
international community."
To date, the UAE has distributed more than 730
tonnes of aid to 64 countries, supporting more than 730,000 medical
professionals.
