The Russian-Ukrainian crisis has re-emerged after a period of relative dwindling, described by some as a cold war between the two sides.

When terrorism is

Yesterday the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) revealed a security report condemning the Ukrainian intelligence service and accusing it of collaborating with the terrorist organization.

FSB said that the Ukrainian intelligence agency provides broad support to the elements of the organization «ISIS», in addition to the far-right group known as «Pravie Sectors» - which is located in Ukraine since November 2013 - and push them to cooperate together to carry out terrorist operations and targeting of separatist leaders loyal to Russia in the east Ukraine.

The competent authorities indicated that they had adopted this information on the basis of a statement made by a Russian citizen belongs to "ISIS",  and named Medjid Majumidov, who was arrested in Russia last Sunday.

Magomedov said that the Ukrainian intelligence agency is providing assistance to the organization, and provide them with funds, weapons and explosives to carry out terrorist attacks in Russia, as well as to eliminate the separatist leaders of Russian leanings in the Republic of Lugansk and the People's Republic of Donetsk.

The charges come after the assassination of the President of the People's Republic of Donetsk, Alexander Zakharchenko, which took place on August 31, 2018.

When terrorism is

The roots of conflict

The accusations may seem complex and vaguely vague, but by the return to the past history of relations between the two countries, some of the mysteries and vagueness of things are unfolding.

The Ukrainian state on the eastern map of Europe was once part of the Soviet Union but recently separated from it in 1991, and became eager to join the European Union and confirm its membership of the continent and the old disassociate from the Russian.

In spite of this, some believe that belonging to the Russian bear better than to take refuge in Europe.

As a result of these differences and contradictions, whether ideological or driven, clashes broke out in Kiev in 2013 against the background of the government's suspension of a trade partnership with the European Union.

As a result of these conflicts, President Viktor Yanukovych was sacked in 2014 after a revolution that deepened the division in the country, followed by an intensification of battles in the region known as Donbass, which lies in eastern Ukraine on the Russian border and includes separatist leaders loyal to the Russian Federation.

Then Russia intervened militarily in the territory of the international neighbor, under the pretext of protecting the separatists and included the Crimean region of its sovereignty after a different referendum globally, prompting other circles to declare separation from Ukraine and the formation of independent states.

The States that have emerged from this conflict are The Republic of Donetsk and the Republic of Luzhansk.

The two countries were not recognized but declared secession from Ukraine in 2014 after the Crimean accession to Russia.

In addition, the leaders of the newly-claimed eastern Ukraine are loyal to Russia, which accuses Ukraine of killing one of them, Alexander Zakharchenko.

When terrorism is

Exploitation

The nature of political determinism is that the areas of conflict and greed are a soft environment to attract or sometimes exploit elements of terrorism from some parties to the conflict; this is reflected in the Ukrainian model.

The right-wing figure, Bravvi Siktor, now accused by Russia of carrying out assassinations and supporting " Has been engaged militarily during the crisis in the country in 2014 is not satisfied with political representation, as the right sector sent an armed battalion to participate in the war «Donbas» in 2014 and fight for the benefit of the Ukrainian forces that are not pro-Russian.

After the appearance of the organization «ISIS» on the world stage, the head of the Ukrainian Security Service, Vasily Gritsak, in a press statement in 2015, the possession of the security services, information and data confirms the presence of heavy elements of ISIS in the country.

In addition, the country was recently hit by a number of terrorist attacks, most notably the August 24, 2017 explosion targeting the Parliament Street and several other government buildings during the celebration of the 26th anniversary of independence, injuring two people.

If we want to talk about the relationship between political unrest and the terrorist presence, according to a study published by the Institute of "Peace and Economy" in 2016 we find that the areas of political conflicts are more exposed to terrorism and the growth of extremist elements more than others.

The study found too that the terrorist operations that occurred between 1989 and 2015, 93 per cent in countries with a violent political character, as well as internal conflicts and participation in armed conflicts.

In addition, there are other terrorist groups in the country who also take the secession claims as false legitimacy for their activities, such as the Jawaher Dudaev group, which adopts the ISIS ideology.

Moreover, it is reported that government corruption that delays the country from joining the EU makes it easier for extremists to obtain passports, and go to the heart of Europe.
