Assassination attempt divulges Turkish plans in Austria
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is running into a new scandal after a plot by the Turkish intelligence to assassinate some opponents of the Turkish ruling party was uncovered in Europe.
A Turkish intelligence agent had recently confessed that
he was assigned the mission of assassinating Kurdish-Austrian politician
Berivan Aslan, a member of Austria’s Green Party.
The assassination attempt constitutes a new twist in
relations between Turkey and Austria.
Feyyaz
Ö., who claims to work for Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization, said he
was mandated to kill the politician.
He told
the authorities that he had received information about the assassination from
another intelligence employee in Serbia and had been watching Aslan for a while
and admitted that he booked a hotel room to wait for Aslan.
In
his confession, it was revealed that the Turkish intelligence was planning
other assassinations in Austria to create unrest there.
Aslan
is a Kurdish politician and academic who is active in politics focusing on
minority rights, freedom of belief and women’s struggles in Austria. He is a
candidate for the Green Party in the 2021 elections.
Meanwhile, the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
summoned the Turkish ambassador in Vienna at the end of June against the
background of violence committed by the backers of the Turkish president in
Austria.
Turkish mosque imams are also active in playing a
political role in European states.
