Brotherhood hoping to make a political comeback after Biden's victory

The outlawed Muslim Brotherhood movement could not hide its elation at the election victory of Democrat Joe Biden.
Movement Supreme Guide,
Ibrahim Mounir, issued a statement on November 7, in which he congratulated the
president-elect, only hours after the announcement of the election results in
the United States.
Mounir called in his
statement on the new president to reconsider his country's relations with what
he called "dictatorships".
This rhetoric moves
hand in hand with the media coverage of the presidential election in the United
States by outlets affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood. These outlets dealt
with Biden as if he was the Muslim Brotherhood's candidate. They also mocked
outgoing president Donald Trump, especially his accusation that the vote had
been rigged in some states.
The Brotherhood backed
Biden from the very beginning, having convinced American Muslims that he would
be an appropriate choice for the American presidency.
It cited pledges made
by Biden for giving freedoms to minorities and his usage of quotes from the
holy Quran and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad.
International, external
ambitions
The Muslim Brotherhood
hopes it can make some gains after Biden's coming to the American saddle.
The Islamist movement,
observers said, hopes Biden will be another copy of former Democratic president
Barack Obama. It views Obama as an exemplary president during whose two terms
in office in the United States it succeeded in fulfilling its most important
dream, namely of reaching power in Egypt as well as in other Arab states.
The congratulations
Mounir sent Biden throw light on Muslim Brotherhood dreams in the coming
period, with a new president taking over in the United States. The group just
hopes that Biden will help it return to its status before the Trump presidency
began.
The Muslim Brotherhood
also waits for Trump to fulfill his pledge to enlist support from Muslims in
the United States.
