TURKISH -CYPRIOT RELEASED DETAINED EGYPTIAN FISHERMEN

Egypt said yesterdAY five Egyptian fishermen were released in Northern Cyprus one week
after their arrest for breaching territorial waters, a statement by the foreign
ministry read.
In an
official statement, Egypt’s foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said a
court had fined the fishermen, who were arrested off the coast of Kyrenia, 500
euros each (approximately EGP 10,500).
The five men
and their vessel were allowed to leave by the authorities after the
Cypriot-Greek Company owning the ship paid the fine.
They are
expected to arrive tomorrow on board of the vessel to Cyprus’s Limassol Port.
Abu Zeid
praised the cooperation and efforts exerted by the Cypriot counterparts and the
Egyptian Embassy in Nicosia, which lead to the fishermen’s release.
Arrests made
over an illegal entry and fishing by Egyptian fishermen is common.
