Turkish police detain 641 over suspected PKK links

Turkish police has detained 641 people over the last
48 hours over alleged links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK),
Diken news site reported on Saturday, citing the Interior Ministry.
Operations were carried out across 42 provinces to
capture the suspects in coordination with chief prosecutor's offices across the
country, it said.
Police found a large number of guns, rifles,
and cartridges and ammunition clips
belonging to the weapons, as well as well as organisational documents and
digital materials during the raids.
The PKK is an armed group, which has fought for
Kurdish autonomy in Turkey for almost four decades.
The group is designated a terrorist organisation by
Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
Some 75,453 people have been detained in Turkey in
the last five years on terrorism charges, 19,018 of whom were arrested and
imprisoned.
