Abul Gheit: Palestinian reconciliation is a must
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit said
Palestinian reconciliation remains a pressing necessity and a goal that will
never be relinquished.
He was speaking at a meeting here on Wednesday with
the man in charge of the Palestinian reconciliation file, Fatah Central
Committee member Azzam Ahmed Azzam.
"Putting the Palestinian house in order and
ending Palestinian division has become a must given the increasing challenges
facing the Palestinian cause and people," Abul Gheit said.
Abul Gheit and Azzam probed the latest developments
of the Palestinian reconciliation file and obstructions standing in the way,
Arab League Spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said.
The Arab League has, over the past years, called for
an end to the Palestinian rift and welcomed all efforts exerted towards this
end, especially Egypt's efforts, Afifi added.
