Tahrir al-Sham has asked the residents of al-Wasata Village in the western countryside of Aleppo to evacuate within 24 hours, in its bid to please Turkey which seeks to establish a military base in the village.
Members of Tahrir al-Sham raided the village on December 24 and arrested those who did not agree to voluntarily leave their homes, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
It said the residents of the village pleaded with the members of the militia to leave them in their homes, especially with the weather being very cold outside.
The observatory said Tahrir al-Sham works only to serve the Turkish agenda in Syria, in its bid to get more financial support from Ankara.
A few months ago, Tahrir al-Sham forced the residents of another village to evacuate so that Turkish troops can establish presence in it, the observatory said.
Tahrir al-Sham was responsible for guarding the joint Syrian-Turkish border during the past three months. It did this to guard Turkish military bases in the area.
Tightened security
Syrian activist Rayan Maarouf said Tahrir al-Sham does its best to please Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at present.
This is especially true with the tough economic conditions of the militia, Maarouf said.
He told The Reference that Tahrir al-Sham had tightened its grip on the joint Syrian-Turkish border to prevent smuggling operations for the pleasure of the Turkish government.
This gives Tahrir al-Sham the chance to keep present and also protect Turkish interests in Syria, Maarouf said.
