With the arrival of the new US President, Joe Biden, to the White House to take over the reins of power on January 20, some people flaunted various peace initiatives that promise to change the region.

Gulf Reconciliation
Kuwait succeeded in bringing Gulf states together on the road to an agreement that gradually breaks the ice between Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Bahrain, on one hand, and Qatar, on the other.
Saudi Arabia and Turkey
This was followed by an initiative by the Special Envoy of the Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation Mutlaq Al-Qahtani.
He said Qatar was ready to mediate between Saudi Arabia and Turkey to on the road of bringing relations between the two countries back on track.

Al-Qahtani added at a seminar on Qatari mediation efforts that Qatar possessed vital and strategic sources of income, and is located in a vital, geopolitical and economic area.

In an inflamed region and in a state of semi-permanent tension, from some regional powers, in addition to being located between two neighboring countries that present challenges between them, Saudi Arabia and Iran, all of this has prompted Qatar to adopt an independent and neutral policy that believes in dialogue, good offices, mediation, negotiations, preventive diplomacy and settling disputes and crises by all means, he said.

Qatari mediation
In response to a question about Qatar's readiness to mediate and de-escalate tensions between Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Al-Qahtani said: "This is due to the principle of consent as a fundamental principle in international relations."
He added that his country has a role to play if the two countries agree on the mediation.
It is possible to do so, he said.
