CEMO seminar to highlight Islamists' abuse of human rights

The Middle East Center for Studies in Paris (CEMO), which is headed by Dr. Abdel Rahim Ali, will organize a seminar on Saturday under the title "Human Rights: Islamists' Weapon in Democracy Abuse".
The seminar comes in the wake of exploitation by Islamists of human
rights to serve their own agendas.
The new left in Europe has a truncated and incomplete view of human
rights. The left restricts these rights to freedoms, including freedom of
speech, which is sacred by all means.
However, the same perspective overlooks humans' right to a happy
life, quality education, and healthcare. Freedom of speech cannot substitute
all these rights.
Freedom of speech and other freedoms produced by Western democracy
are undoubtedly necessary. Nonetheless, the safety of humans is becoming a top
priority in the face of terrorism and bankruptcy.
Those focusing on human rights only in the Middle East disregard
the cares and the problems of people on the streets. They disregard the effects
repeated wars and civil wars have had on these people and the devastation left
behind by the Islamic State group.
Regional peoples aspire for stability and dignity, things they lost
a long time ago.
Europe's idealized human rights discourse is exploited by the
pro-Turkey Islamist lobby. The same discourse is the winning card of the Muslim
Brotherhood, backed by both Qatar and Turkey. This organization uses this card
to serve its own interests.
The CEMO seminar will be a good chance to throw light on Muslim
Brotherhood tactics in this regard and also on the tough economic and political
conditions in the Middle East region.
True, human rights are important, but can they – in the different
contexts we know – turn into a lifeboat in a world that is totally sinking?
The seminar will start at 10:30 a.m. CEMO Executive Director Ahmed
Youssef will start by introducing the speakers.
These speakers will include French Senator Valerie Bouillier, CEMO
Director Ali, and French writers Yves Thréard and Roland Lombardi.
