US Imam calls for applying Islamic Sharia to sexual assault case against Kananough

U.S. prominent Islamist
Imam Zaid Shaker stirred controversy among the the American community when
called for applying Islamic Sharia to cases of sexual assaults.
In an opinion article
posted on his Facebook account, Imam Shaker said that Islamic Sharia (law)
stipulates that any sexual assault case should include four witnesses for the
prosecution. He called to apply the Islamic law to the case filed against
Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh by psychologist Christine Blasey
Ford.
“As for Dr. Ford’s
accusations, they cannot be used as evidence against Judge Kavanaugh. That is
so for a number of reasons. I will confine myself to those which are rooted in
Muslim teachings. We read in the Qur’an, “Those who bring charges of sexual
improprieties against chaste women, then fail to come forth with four
corroborating witnesses, lash them eighty times and never again accept their
testimony. Such are truly corrupt” 24:4,” wrote in his article.
Dr. Ford’s allegations
against U.S. President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court President became a
high-profile case over the past week. In September, the US Congress held a
hearing attended by Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford, who accused the first of sexual
assault in a party more than 30 years ago.
Zaid Shaker converted to
Islam in 1977. He studied Arabic language and Islamic law in Cairo and
Syria and traveled to Morocco. He worked as an imam of the Connecticut Mosque
from 1988 to 1994. Shaker is a co-founder of the San-Francisco based Zaytuna
college.
