The fighting broke out among the Houthis with a battle being triggered between Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, leader of Ansar Allah group known in the media as Houthis, and his most prominent opponent Mohammed Abdul Azim al-Houthi.

The statements of Mohammed bin Abdul Azim bin Hassan bin Hussein Al-Houthi came to worsen the situation, especially since Azim has fought many intellectual and even armed battles against the Houthis.

His recent remarks bore a similar blow to the group of Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, as he asserted that they were seeking power and were not qualified for it. He added that they used the Zaidi doctrine to jump to power.

He described them as the enemies of Islam, the enemies of religion and the enemies of the believers and the evidence to this is their killing of Muslims, according to the Information Office of Muhammad Azim al-Houthi.

After repeated assaults, Abdul-Azim al-Houthi said that they should fight them. “I swear, fighting against them is better than prayer, better than fighting against the Jews, and they are worse than Israel," he said.

He considered that the Houthi group is an ally of Iran, America and Israel, and that their raising of the slogans of "Death to America, Death to Israel" is a lie that is only been accepted by fools and naïve people. "They have relations with Iran and Lebanon (Hezbollah) as well as terrorists in several areas even in America,” he said, according to the Yemeni newspaper Al-Gomhouria.

Bloody conflict

In contrast to the ideological dispute, an armed struggle is now taking place between the supporters of Abdul-Azim al-Houthi and the sons of Badr al-Din al-Houthi, the leaders of the Houthi militia, as Abdul-Azim al-Houthi was expelled by the militia from Dahyan north of Saada in 2004 and his house was destroyed due to his rival, the family of Abdulmalik al-Houthi.

They also attacked his son in the area of Rabee’ at the Directorate of Sahar in Saada in October 2012, according to his interview with the Yemeni newspaper Al-Gomhouria.

Abdul-Azim Al-Houthi issued a statement saying: "Every believer and all those who have ties with us have to wage jihad against this oppressive group (Houthis) and defend the mosque, its students and its immigrants."

After that, a clash escalated between supporters of Abdul-Azim al-Huthi, whose followers are concentrated in the provinces of Saada, Sana'a, Amran, Hajjah and Dhamar, and the militia of Abdul Malik al-Houthi.

The Houthis in May 2015 blew up a mosque, a school and 13 houses in the Kadm and Qalqa district of Haidan province of Saada under the pretext of their allegiance to Mohammed Azim. In April 2016, violent clashes occurred between the supporters of Abdul-Azim al-Huthi and the Huthis, leaving dozens of followers of Abdel-Azim al-Houthi killed.
