Maat Foundation in bid to end war in Yemen

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights has launched a new campaign for ending the war in Yemen.
The
campaign will last for a week and will aim to throw light on human rights
violations in Yemen.
It
also aims to provide the international community with information about the
crimes committed by the Iran-backed Houthi militia in different parts in Yemen.
The
campaign will work to convince the international community to put pressure on
all parties to suspend the war in Yemen, which has already entered its seventh
year.
This
comes as indicators for ending the conflict make themselves scarce in this Arab
country.
Maat
released a report on the first day of the campaign, titled "Yemen: An endless
Cycle of Violations".
Battle
fronts in Yemen increased to 50 in 2021, from 36 in 2019, Maat said in the
report.
It
added that the latest escalation by the Iran-backed militia in the city of
Marib puts the lives of thousands of Yemenis in danger.
The
same escalation opens the door for the displacement of around 800,000 people
from the city, Maat said.
It
added that the possible displacement of these people would be a direct result
of the escalation of violence by the Houthis in the city.
Maat
noted that the Houthis committed 1,700 violations against civilians in the
areas they control in Yemen in 2020.
Around
712 civilians were killed, including 122 children and 66 women, Maat said.
It
added that 940 civilians were also injured, including 247 children and 113
women, in the same year.
