French
President Emmanuel Macron will visit Egypt soon, according to a press
statements by the state-run MENA news agency on Saturday.
In the
statement, French ambassador Stephane Roumtier said Macron will either visit
Egypt by the end of the year or the beginning of 2019.
He added
that there was an ongoing diplomatic coordination between the two countries to
determine the date of the visit.
Roumtier
also spoke of the importance of the trip, which he said highlighted the
historic and special relationship between Cairo and Paris.
The
unspecified visit to Egypt will be the first for French President Macron since
he assumed office in 2017. It has been postponed multiple times this year.
In October
2017, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi visited Paris and discussed with Macron
joint efforts to combat terrorism, the Middle East peace process, and the
situation in Libya.
Both
presidents attended the signing of 16 memoranda of understanding in the fields
of renewable and traditional energy, infrastructure, social security, and
transportation, with El-Sisi meeting a number of French military manufacturing
companies.
