OIC Commends UN Vote Giving Palestine More Powers during 2019 Meetings

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
welcomed the United Nations decision, with a majority of 146 votes, to grant the
State of Palestine more powers to perform its duties as the Chair of the Group
of 77 + China in 2019.
On its website, it stated that the UN vote shows
great discernment on the part of the international community to upgrade the
status of the State of Palestine and further its right to full membership of
the UN.
OIC Secretary General Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen paid
tribute to all countries that have voted in favor of Palestine, delivering a
strong political, moral and humanitarian message of support for the Palestinian
people’s rights and aspiration to establish an independent state of its own,
with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Hailing the UN vote as a historic achievement, Dr
Al-Othaimeen said it should galvanize global efforts to engage in a political
process that delivers a two-state solution, in line with UN resolutions and the
Arab Peace Initiative.
