Azhar expresses deep sorrow over flash flood deaths in Jordan

Al Azhar and its Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb
expressed deep sorrow for the victims of flash floods hitting areas in the Dead
Sea on the back of heavy quick rain battering Jordan.
At least 18 people, mainly schoolchildren and
teachers, were killed on Thursday in a flash flood in the hot springs area near
the Dead Sea that happened while they were on an outing, rescuers and hospital
workers said.
Al Azhar said in a press statement that it offers
its deepest condolences to King Abdullah II of Jordan and the Jordanian people
and families of the victims.
Thirty-four people were rescued while dozens remain
missing due to the flash floods and a major rescue operation has reportedly
been launched to rescue trapped people and search for missing ones.
“May the souls of the deceased rest in peace and may
God give comfort and peace to their families and friends,” Al Azhar said in its
statement, wishing speedy recovery to those injured and the safe return of the
missing to their families and loved ones.
