Cairo
– The United Arab Emirates has shut down Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Mogadishu,
one source said.
"The
hospital closed after the Somali authorities had confiscated money on board of
an UAE plane at Mogadishu airport," a member of the hospital's staff said
on condition of anonymity, noting that some of the confiscated money was for
medicines and staff salaries.
There
has been no official statement made by the UAE government.
Sheikh
Zayed Hospital, UAE-funded, was inaugurated on June 4, 2015 in Mogadishu and used
to treat around 300 patients per day.
On
Sunday, the UAE decided to call off a training mission for assisting the Somali
authorities rebuild the Somali army.
