President of the United Nations General Assembly María
Fernanda warned that the deteriorating environmental systems could be a cause
of crises.
Addressing the Sharm El Sheikh-hosted 14th meeting of the
Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity via video
conference, Fernanda stressed the importance of biological diversity to
humanity.
Biological diversity helps all countries to achieve the
goals of sustainable development and protects human rights as well, she said.
She affirmed the necessity of preserving the
planet’s natural resources to guarantee a better life for the coming
generations, underlining the importance of the agreements on climate change,
biological diversity and desertification for protecting the world from natural
disasters.
