Abul Gheit calls for upgrading higher education
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit
Monday cited efforts exerted to sanction indices for a unified Arab
classification for Arab universities with the aim of accrediting a single
system for the assessment of higher education institutions in the Arab states.
Addressing the opening session of the first forum on
“Higher Education in Arab Countries; Developing Quality and Promoting
Internationalization”, organized by the Arab Academy for Science Technology
& Maritime Transport (AASTMT), Abul Gheit said such assessment has become a
necessity to all international academic accreditation authorities and it is
essential in terms of placing our universities and academic institutions on the
map of reputable international universities.
He stressed the need to improve and upgrade the
quality of university education so that they would compete with their
international counterparts.
The forum's agenda includes higher education in
sustainable development and promoting quality higher education through
internationalization and leveling to international standards.
