Kuwait denies establishment of British naval base

Kuwait's Foreign Ministry denied on Friday reports
on establishing a British naval base in it, confirming close relations and
cooperation between both countries in various fields.
Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for European
Affairs Waleed Al-Khubaizi said, on the sidelines of the 13th meeting of the
joint UK-Kuwaiti Steering Group, that the fruitful cooperation between both
countries at the level of defense is going on.
He pointed out that any request pertaining to the
establishment of military bases stems from such cooperation, stressing that no
consultations have been held on setting up a British naval base in Kuwait.
Kuwait's army and military institutions are capable
of protecting the country's security, he noted.
