Director of the Middle East Center for Studies in Paris, Abdelrahim Ali, said Wednesday that the Muslim Brotherhood used to constitute a solid force with a strong following in the Egyptian society.

He added at a conference in French capital Paris on similarities and differences between the yellow vest protests in France and the Arab Spring protests in the Arab world that the conflict in Egypt was confined to the Brotherhood and the Egyptian army.

He referred to an article he wrote in 2011 in which he expected this conflict to be decided in favor of one of these two power poles in the Egyptian society.

Ali said the Brotherhood could not have been left in power, given the fact that they were not governed by any nationalist Egyptian considerations.

He noted that in cracking down on the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt protect the world from the evils of this movement.
