Houthis kill 24 journalists, close 60 media outlets: Report

The Houthis militias have
committed a countless number of violations against journalists and the press in
Yemen over the last four years, a report by the Rights Radar foundation said.
According to the report, more
than 60 media outlets were raided, looted, seized and closed, and 24
journalists and media professionals were killed, by Houthi militants.
The Rights Radar foundation is a
non-profit foundation devoted to promoting and defending human rights in the
Arab World, Yemen in particular.
The Houthi group arrested dozens
of journalists in the capital Sana’a and in other cities under its control.
Lastly, Houthis have put great
pressure on aid workers and tampered with delivery of international aid. On top
of arbitrarily detaining, kidnapping and even killing aid workers in Yemen,
Houthis have forced them to use list of needy prepared by local officials. In
this setting, often favoritism, imposing bribe and obstruction have kicked in
very often.
The Yemeni Ministry of Human
Rights has also published a report documenting violations of Houthis since
September 21, 2014 and until August 2018, recording 627 violations against the
press. The group killed at least 30 journalists and blocked many news outlets.
Reports further said the armed
militias have held at least at least 17 journalists and media workers as
hostages in Yemen, some of them were subjected to illegal trails.
