Ali says June 30 uprising in Egypt foiled plan to divide region

CAIRO – Director of the Center for Middle East Studies Abdel Rahim Ali said Thursday that the June 30 revolution that overthrew the Muslim Brotherhood regime in Egypt had sabotaged a conspiracy to divide the Arab region.
He added at a seminar on the financing of terrorist organizations in French capital Paris that Syria, Iraq and Libya would be divided into smaller states.
Ali noted that the conspiracy in this regard had been formulated in the 1970s by the US Congress.
It aimed, he said, to open the door for dividing the region along ethnic and religious lines.
The seminar is organized by the Center for Middle East Studies. It is held simultaneously with an international conference in the French capital on the financing of terrorism. French President Emmanuel Macron is attending the international conference.
