UN envoy leaves Sanaa for Riyadh

The UN envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, left for
Saudi Arabia on Monday, wrapping up his visit to Yemen during which he had
talks on means of finding a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, Al Arabiya
news channel reported.
On Sunday, Griffiths held talks with Houthi chief
Abdelmalik al-Huthi, spokesman Mohammed Abdelsalam said in a statement carried
by the militia’s media platforms.
He said that the two addressed "preparations
for the upcoming round of talks."
Griffiths, who brokered the breakthrough last month
in Sweden, returned to Yemen on Saturday with a plan to expedite measures
agreed between the government and the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
Key among them is the redeployment of rival forces
from Hodeida, the Red Sea port city crucial for aid and food imports.
Obstacles hindering the implementation of the Sweden
agreement regarding the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah prompted the UN head of
the truce monitoring committee, retired Dutch General Patrick Cammaert, to
travel to Sanaa ahead of Griffiths’ arrival there in preparation for talks with
Houthi leaders.
These meetings come ahead of the upcoming third
meeting of the Joint Tripartite Coordinating Committee for the redeployment in
Hodeidah expected next Tuesday.
