A book on the Rifa`I Sufi order (tariqa) in Iraq will be released soon
by Sheikh Muhammad Ajjan Al-Hadeed.
In a Facebook post, Sheikh Al-Hadeed said the new book will include
special texts by renowned Sheikhs of the Rifa’I order that dates back to the 14th
century.
Rifa’I is an eminent Sufi order founded by Ahmed ar-Rifa'I and developed in the Lower Iraq marshlands
between Wasit and Basra.
As for religious issues, Rifa’I advised his followers to adhere to the
Quran and Sunna without resorting to other religious issues or how to perform
prayers, the matter which the order is criticized for, that it focuses on other
made-up practices, such as the Awrad, devotional acts in Islam in which
short phrases or prayers are repeatedly recited silently within the mind or
aloud.
The Rifa’I order has a noticeable presence in Egypt as it has around
seven million followers. It is most commonly found in the Arab Middle East but
also in Turkey, the Balkans and South Asia.
