Egypt plays a big role in backing Yemeni state – official
A Yemeni government official stressed on Thursday that Egypt
plays a big role in backing the Yemeni state and bringing about stability
there.
Speaking to MENA, Hamza el Kamali, member of the Yemeni
government delegation to Stockholm agreement, said Egypt exerts big efforts at
the humanitarian level as it sends aid convoys to Yemen.
It also plays an important role at the diplomatic level to
find a solution to the Yemeni issue.
Kamali, who serves as Yemeni Youths and Sports
Undersecretary, said situation in Yemen is very complicated because of the
Houthis' coup against the legitimate government.
What is happening in Yemen is a fierce battle launched by
Iranian and Qatari agents to topple the Yemeni state, he said.
The Saudi Arabia-led Arab coalition is trying to back Yemeni
legitimate bodies and fight armed groups, he said, adding that any solution to
the Yemeni issue should be based on the understandings reached during the
National Dialogue Conference and terms of reference adopted by Gulf Cooperation
Council.
About the Stockholm agreement, he said unfortunately it was
not applied so far because of the Houthis who are trying to skirt around the
agreement and hand over power from its militias to itself in a tricky way.
The Stockholm Agreement was very clear and stipulates the
handover of all State institutions to the legitimate authority that has been in
office before 2014.
The interview with MENA was conducted on the sidelines of a
seminar organized by the Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies.
