21 killed, injured in Taliban mortar attack in Nangarhar

At least 21 civilians were killed or wounded in
mortar attack by the Taliban militants in eastern Nangahrar province of
Afghanistan, Khaama Press reported.
According to the local officials, the incident took
place on Tuesday afternoon at around 5:00 a.m. local time in Bati Kot district.
The provincial government media office in a
statement said a mortar round fired by the Taliban militants landed in Hafiz
Godai area, leaving at least two civilians dead.
The statement added that the attack also left at
least 19 civilians who have been shifted to the hospital in Jalalabad city.
According to the provincial government, the health
condition of those wounded in the attack have been reported as stable and are
currently being treated in the hospital.
The anti-government armed militant groups including
Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far.
Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in
East of Afghanistan but the security situation of the province has started to
deteriorate comparatively during the recent years as the anti-government armed
militants including Taliban are attempting to expand their insurgency in some
remote parts of the province.
